My favorites

I began my literary journey in the Oswego public library where my grandmother, Vivian worked. That library overflowed into her house and ours where we inherited some wonderful volumes including The Lands and Peoples encyclopedia, the great children's classics Gulliver's Travels, Moby Dick, Black Beauty, The Yearling, Old Yeller, and others.

My favorite writers are Lawrence Durrell and John Steinbeck. Books are Faucoult's Pendelum, Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land accompanied me to Chicago as a young journalist, and Ayn Rand introduced me to New York when I arrived in the early 1980's with Atlas Shrugged.

In New York I learned how to appreciate The Beats with a new found awareness, Ginsberg, Boroughs, Karoak, and Dr. Hunter S. as theirs and the rest of our lives descended into the miasmatic attempt to understand what occured after the end of The World War--trying to make sense in broad terms of what was in fact nonsensical and unknowable the results causing us to plunge deep into our post-modern chasm of disappointment and despair not realizing that we were, in modern historical perspective, not invincible.
